What is Google Redress and Integrity Platform ?

GRIP is a new initiative to evaluate the potential damage claims arising from Google’s anticompetitive behaviour.

GRIP is not an industry lobby, but a platform providing information, representation and legal services.

There is no big competitor of Google behind GRIP: GRIP is an independent platform run by Avisa, a boutique consultancy that filed a complaint against Google in early 2010, assisted by Hausfeld, a specialist competition law firm with experience on both sides of the Atlantic.

Why is GRIP being launched?

The leading thought behind GRIP is fairness in the marketplace. In instances of abuse of market dominance a player with significant market power is able to tip the scales further to its advantage not on merits, but in an abusive manner. Competition authorities and regulators can respond by investigating such behaviour which may lead to significant fines down the line. Nevertheless, in recent years there has been a marked policy move from focus on public to private enforcement of competition law. The options for consumers and other players in the markets to assert their rights in Europe are increasing and diversifying and GRIP aims to take a leading role on this. It is important that the balance in the market place and efficient competition are restored by enabling efficient and innovative competitors to offer alternative and, perhaps, better services.

How can GRIP help all those who have been affected by Google?

We believe that Google’s anticompetitive behaviour could have a significant impact on corporations, associations and consumers.

After an initial appraisal by Avisa, any cases regarded as appropriate will be referred to Hausfeld who will further assess the merits of any potential claims and together with you will consider the way forward.
